Houston Mayor John Whitmire

If there’s one thing about Houstonians everyone should know is that Houstonians love sports, especially when it comes to their beloved Astros. This week in Houston get ready for the NCAA 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship between Michigan Wolverines versus Washington Huskies on Monday Jan 8th, 2024. Who will win will be anyone’s guess, but the one thing that we know is that it’s a match up that many people are looking forward to watching or attending.

In preparation for the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship, the City of Houston is doing everything in its power to ensure that both citizens and visitors alike feel safe and at home during the duration of the game. Today the newly elected John Whitmire, along with Chief Troy Finner of the Houston Police Department, Chief Samuel Peña of the Houston Fire Department, Chief George Buenik of the Mayor's Office of Public Safety, and Homeland Security and OEM Janis Burke. Also in attendance was the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority and the representative of NRG Park Ellis Stafford and the Chief of the Houston METRO/PD; all of whom gave a press conference at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

This weekend’s event should be a great opportunity for Houston because not only will it introduce visitors to the City of Houston, but it will most definitely stimulate the local economy. Moreover, public safety will not be an issue for sports fans to worry about as there will be a heavy police presence in the City of Houston. Keep in mind that starting tomorrow, there will also be lots of activities, vendors, and things to do at the George R. Brown Convention Center located at 1001 Avenida De Las Americas, Houston, TX 7701 for the fans and spectators alike.

In closing, no matter what team you’re rooting for, we want you to have a great time and to be safe doing so. Remember, if you see something, say something. As always, we took some photos and videos for your enjoyment.
