In lieu of the Houston Dynamo’s first game of the 2025 session which starts tomorrow, we were invited to the Houston Dynamo’s practice and press conference today which was located at Shell Energy Stadium. Although it was really cold (for Houston), the Houston Dynamo’s brough the heat to their practice game to demonstrate that even though there were significant changes in their player line up, they still have possession of the “trifecta” that Houston Dynamo fans love; and that's team cohesion, highly skilled players, and the ability to assert their dominance on the pitch.
Outside of the obvious change in their player line up, they also have a new Team Captain; Midfielder José Artur de Lima Junior. The 5’11, 150 lb. Team Captain hails from Brumado, Brazil is a senior player with the Houston Dynamo. What we at VEDA Communications like about him is that he is not only highly intelligent, but he’s also very level-headed and team oriented. These are very important traits to possess while representing the Houston Dynamo on and off the pitch. Even though there is so much more to José as a Team Captain; It was easy to see why José was chosen to be the new Dynamo Team Captain for the 2025 season.
When asked about his expectations for the Houston Dynamo for the 2025 season, Head Coach Ben Olsen easily replied [paraphrasing] “to score – to get points”. This is a fair and credible statement regardless of its simplicity because in essence, this for all intensive purposes can be considered a “new team” in a way because of the induction of new players. With Saturday's game against MLS rival, Dallas FC, there seems to be no better time to quickly test and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the team as is. In doing so, this gives the Houston Dynamo the opportunity to make the necessary corrections and adjustments in their game to optimize their chances of winning on the pitch.
The 2025 smell of success is in the air for the Houston Dynamo, the only thing that’s left for their fans around the world is to feel their anticipated success by winning.
