Album Review: Ghostface Killah “Set The Tone – Guns & Roses”

Written by Michael Thervil

If you love the Wu-Tang Clan, and if you love Ghostface Killah whose real name is Dennis Coles, his newest album is for you. “Set The Tone – Guns & Roses” was released May 10th, 2024. What we can absolutely say about the newest Ghostface Killah album is that it’s a breath of fresh air in the world of Hip-Hop/Rap which is oversaturated with garbage “artists” from today’s younger generation. At 54 years old, Ghostface Killah still has the grittiest rhymes, flow, and delivery that he’s always been known for since his debut on the “Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” album that was released just over 31 years ago in 1993.

“Set The Tone – Guns & Roses” was released by Mass Appeal which was founded by the one and only legendary Hip-Hop Artist and business mogul “Nas” whose real name is Nasir Jones and Peter Bittenbender. Mass Appeal Music Group was created in 2014 and falls under the Mass Appeal Music Group Umbrella. Currently The Mass Appeal Music Group has a distribution deal with “The Orchid” who is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. Getting back to Ghostface Killah “Set The Tone – Guns & Roses”, the album is comprised of 19 tracks that are sure to keep you listening to it day in and day out.

When it comes to our favorite tracks on this album, we specifically enjoyed “Skate Odyssey” featuring fellow Wu-Tang member Raekwon and modern-day Marvin Gaye sounding artist October London. We also enjoyed the album single “No Face” featuring Kanye West, "Scar Tissue” featuring Nas, and “Cape Fear” which featured the one and only Fat Joe.

Other artist that are featured on the “Set The Tone – Guns & Roses” album are Jim Jones, Sheek Louch, Harl3y, Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man, Dancehall Artist Beniton, Iceman, Ja Rule, AZ, Bee-B, Shaun Wiah, Busta Rhymes, Serani, Chucky Hollywood, and Remy Ma. For many people some of the artists may not be mainstream, but we urge you not to sleep on these artists as they really bring heat to Ghostface’s latest album.

Worthy of note, Ghostface revealed on this album that “Supreme Clientele 2” is in the works for a future release and that’s exciting news for any and everyone who enjoyed the first Supreme Clientele album which dropped on February 8, 2000, by Epic Records. Final thoughts: Ghostface Killah “Set The Tone – Guns & Roses” is a certified street banger, with producers that fits the sound of Ghostface and is not for the faint of heart. Only true lovers of Hip-Hop and the Wu-Tang Clan can fully appreciate this album.

Sidenote: “Indiana Tone and The Temple of Goons”; that line was funny as shit as Ghostface closed out just before the last track of the album “Yupp!”.
