If you are a lover and even a Connoisseur of the Fine Art of Ballet, it should be known that the Houston Ballet will now be the new home of international Italian male ballet performer Angelo Greco who will be joining the Houston Ballet as a Principal Dancer for the upcoming 2024 – 2025 season. Angelo Greco who arrived in 2016 will be transitioning from the San Francisco ballet where he was both a solo performer then Principal during the 2017 ballet season.

According to the Houston Ballet’s Press Release Angelo Greco stated:

““When I started thinking about my next move, my next adventure, I saw it right away when Stanton and Julie came together,” says Greco. “I’ve worked with both before [separately]. When we connected and they said they had an opening, right away I said yes!””

For ballet lovers in Houston Texas, this is very exciting news because they get the opportunity to bear witness to an international great gracing the Houston ballet stage. Angelo Greco was born in Nuoro Sardinia, Italy, and consequently was raised in Modena and formally trained in the art of ballet at Il Balletto di Castelfranco Veneto followed by more formal training at La Scala Ballet Academy in Milan.

Also, according to the Houston Ballet’s Press Release, Angelo Greco has been obtained the following accolades:

“Numerous renowned choreographers have created works on Greco, including Yuri Possokhov’s Optimistic Tragedy, Helgi Tomasson’s Harmony, Dwight Rhoden’s LET’S BEGIN AT THE END, C Wheeldon’s Bound To, and Stanton Welch AM’s Bespoke. He has also performed principal and featured roles in Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote, Alexei Ratmansky’s The Sleeping Beauty, and Maurice Béjart’s Gaîté Parisienne. Among his accolades, Greco has been the recipient of Dance Europe’s Outstanding Artistry Award in 2011 and 2012, and the Erik Bruhn Prize in 2016.”

Even though, ballet lovers in Houston are excited, there isn't anyone more excited about Angelo Greco coming to the Houston Ballet than Houston Ballet artistic directors Stanton Welch AM and Julie Kent who stated:

“Angelo Greco’s coming to Houston Ballet as Principal Dancer for the 2024 - 2025 season marks a very exciting addition to the Company. We eagerly anticipate the creative energy and artistry he will bring, and we warmly welcome him to our Houston Ballet family.”

Angelo Greco’s first performance with the Houston Ballet will be sometime this July, 2024.
