Bonnet Gang Strikes Again

As always, we are going to be straightforward with you – hair bonnets are not fashionable and are not to be worn outside.  There’s a couple of reasons for this and the first is that people, especially Black Americans have become too informal today. This is important to know and understand because you can’t complain about how people treat you but look bad enough so that people feel justified in treating you that way. This is why making sure that when you go out you always look presentable as you never know who is watching you and taking notes. Even more importantly, men should not be wearing bonnets at all, and men should most definitely not be wearing bonnets in public. Why? Because not only is wearing a bonnet a mark of femininity, but when men wear bonnets, it simply looks gay; especially when they wear a bonnet in public. Remember there are social roles and expectations for both men and women in any society.

So, for you men reading this, for the love of all things holy and sanctified; do not wear a bonnet, you look ridiculous wearing a bonnet and you look gay wearing a bonnet. That’s it. Beyond that, wearing a bonnet outside of your home is a hallmark of you being from a lower social class and thus, gives the appearance to the public that you have no personal standards or system of checks and balances that will keep you socially in check and in step with the rest of society. Trust us, we get it; bonnets that are made of silk or satin are designed to keep your hair from suffering from split ends and it’s also a way to tame your hair from frizzing – again we get it. But what we don’t get is why do you feel the need to step out of your house with it on your head?

Or could there be more to the story than simply wearing a bonnet outside of your home to control and manage your hair? Could it be that people who engage in this practice have become too lazy to do anything to their hair and thus they treat the bonnet like they treat wigs – as something to cover up your lack of dignity, and self-respect because you purposely failed to do anything with your hair before you left your home? Maybe this alone serves as reasonable suspicion that such behavior is taking place.

We remember a time when before people left their homes, they actually took the time out to look like something before they left. There was a strong desire to take personal pride in one’s appearance. We remember a time when looking like a classless hobo was not the norm as it appears to be these days. The questions of the day are: when  are we ever going to get back to people taking pride in how they look at all times? When are we going to get back to people having self-respect in terms of fashion and otherwise? Are we so far gone that we are doomed to have to continue to have to bear witness to classlessness becoming the norm of everyday life? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
