Carlee Russell is a 25-year-old American Black Woman who was reported missing and later confessed to falsely being kidnapped on (date) for a total of two days. What makes this such a big deal and worthy of her being sued by either the Hoover Police Department and or the City of Hoover is that she falsely stated to authorities that she saw a child walking alone on Alabama Interstate-459 and she went to “help” the child. The motive as to why she decided to stage her own kidnapping is currently unknown. However, what we do know is that it's not a good look for her and the overall look for the American Black Women.
What we mean by that is, if something were to actually happen and she really needed help, people may become less likely to respond and empathize with her due to her propensity to lie in this manner for whatever reason. But even more than that, there are several things Carlee Russell’s actions say about her and the first is that she may be suffering from some sort of cognitive or mental health issue. Another thing that can be deduced from her actions is that Carlee Russell may be what is known as an “Attention Whore”. Lastly, through her actions it can be deduced that Carlee Russell could have attempted a botched execution in order to become “insta-famous” or some kind of internet sensation.
In the case of her possibly having cognitive or mental health issues; she is a grown woman, and in being that; she should be aware of her mental health status. Thus, she should have sought out some kind of help. Secondly, if she was fulfilling her role as an Attention Whore, she failed, and this situation should count as a serious wake up call that she needs to first stop what she’s doing and seek some kind of professional help. Lastly, if Carlee Russell was seeking to obtain some kind of fame or notoriety, this is simply not the way to do it as it's just wrong and socially irresponsible. Although so many women today have a voracious need for attention, validation, and with narcissistic behavior on the rise, we can understand how that came to be because of social media. This is especially true because social media has made it cool to be “famous for nothing”. A prime example of being “famous for nothing” are the Kardashian’s.
Either way, outside of the possibility of Carlee Russell having cognitive or mental health issues – she should be sued by the Hoover Police Department for having to shell out the resources in their attempt to search for her. Moreover, since the police department is an element of the City of Hoover, the city should sue her as well. We are saying this because there needs to be a way for people to be held accountable for actions such as this. Even more importantly, a lawsuit by the Hoover Police Department or the City of Hoover should serve as a “notice” to keep women who commit acts like these in check. The reason why we are saying this is because if the Hoover Police Department of the City of Hoover doesn’t do anything, it only leads to more people but women specifically to commit acts like these again in the future.
