If there is one thing that we can say at VEDA Communications is that it was not only a pleasure but an honor to have former Democrat Houston Mayor, now Congressman, Sylvester Turner in front of our cameras. This is a very sad day for Houston Texas as Sylvester Turner was one of the most liked and loved Mayors in the history of the City of Houston. What made Congressman Sylvester Turner special was his uncanny ability to create, develop, and implement “common sense” legislation and governance when it came to running the City of Houston.

Congressman Sylvester Turner was also a staunch supporter of civil rights as well as socio-economic diversification amongst the residents of Houston. Sylvester Turner the 62th Mayor of the City of Houston was born on September 27, 1954 in the renowned “Acres Homes”, also known as the legendary "4-4" neighborhood in Houston Texas. He attended Klein high school then he went on to attend the University of Houston and graduated with a bachelor of science in political science. He then went on to round off his educational career by graduating from Harvard law school where he earned his Juris Doctorate. Congressman Sylvester Turner was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. As a side note, Congressman Sylvester Turner was extremely funny as he often expressed himself comedically in public.

Congressmen Sylvester Turner, an attorney and educator began his political career in 1991, but he wouldn't be the Mayor of Houston until 2015. Congressman Sylvester Turner won a second term as the Mayor of Houston is 2019. After his exit from being the Mayor of Houston he took over the Sheila Jackson-Lee (Democrat) Congressional seat in 2024. In tragedy, he died while off in the U.S. Representatives Texas 18th Congressional District chair this morning.

No matter which side of the political aisle the people of Houston sat on – everyone loved, respected, and cherished Mayor Sylvester Turner. With him gone in body, his spirit lives on in Houston as he’s positively impacted millions of lives within the city of Houston and abroad. We are at VEDA Communications LLC. Like the rest of everyone in Houston Texas will miss him dearly.
