While street racing is still considered illegal in Zimbabwe and virtually everywhere else in the world because of the inherent danger that car racing carries. The people of Zimbabwe have spoken and are now sanctioning places within their country to allow people to engage in not necessarily street racing but what they call “Spinning”. In Zimbabwe, Spinning is an entertaining automotive act where people modify their cars and perform various types of burnouts and methods of drifting within an enclosed obstacle course. For many people, allowing the youth to engage in sanctioned “Spinning” events on a closed course is a great way to stop the youth from engaging in both acts of violence and general acts of aberrant behavior. In short, Spinning in Zimbabwe is seen as an outlet for the youth.

Did Spinning originate in Zimbabwe or elsewhere in South Africa? Currently it’s unclear. But what we do know is that it’s a hit and that the people of Zimbabwe love it. When some people on the international stage attempt to classify Spinning as a sport, they quickly correct and inform them that Spinning is a form of entertainment that they enjoy engaging in. we have to say as the burn off occurs and the smoke fills the air, the allure of this exhilarating experience, which brings about shock and awe competitiveness, talent and skill, crowd excitement, coupled with the burning of tire rubber within a smoke-filled open atmosphere that comes along with watching the best Spinners in Zimbabwe Spin seems like something to get into. The question that we have is when will Spinning become popular in the United States? Hopefully sooner rather than later.
