Interview with Coach G
It was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to interview Coach Gretchen, who has been an HBCU Dance Coach for over 18 years and is now the Head Coach and Fitness Specialist of the TSU Sensations as well as a proud Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Member. Upon first glance one could definitely take notice of not only her beauty but her astute and professional nature. She is soft spoken but confident, well-spoken and articulate. Yet she was “down to earth” but softly direct and captivating simultaneously. Once her photoshoot was complete, we took the time to interview her so that we could see what was exactly behind her beauty.

In this brief interview, we touched on topics such as her tenure as a Houston Rockets Cheerleader and a memeber of the Houston Rockets Entertainment Group called the Space City Seniors, being a Fitness Specialist, her educational background, as well as her thoughts on both the pros and cons of what it's like dance for PWI’s (Predominately White Institutions) and HBCU’s (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Coach Gretchen was exceptionally tactful in her answers and articulation when it came to the interview questions. As a plus, she even showed more zeal outside the interview. One could easily see that she was very well qualified to be in the position of Head Coach of the TSU Sensations.
According to the TSU Sensations page:
“While the TSU Sensations cheer team is oriented toward traditional cheer activities, the Sensations show spirt combined with modern Hip-Hop dance skills.”

This is a true statement that complements the conversation during the interview when we spoke about the differences between cheerleading styles of PWI’s and HBCU’s in terms of dance coordination. With that being said, don't attempt to guess her age as you will be amazed - as she appears to possess timeless beauty. She also informed us that the TSU Sensations will be holding auditions very soon as they are looking for the best dancers on campus so that they can compete on both the State and National levels. Worthy of note, she did in fact reveal one of her regrets when it came to coaching; to hear that revelation tune into our brother radio station Street 100 The Heat Hosted by HomeSteadSlim.
