According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the reason why Israel should go into Lebanon is because Hezbollah is both attacking Israel from the southern Lebanon border and Hezbollah is paying Lebanese citizens to store their weapons in their houses and other private dwellings. While the international community is asking for proof of this claim by the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it seems as if Israel has no proof of this nor do they care to produce proof of this claim for the international community. Over the weekend, Israel assassinated Hezbollah leader Ibrahim Akil via airstrike in a suburb near Beirut. Israel claimed that its mission was a success which resulted not only in the killing of Ibrahim Akil, but several other senior level Hezbollah leaders as well. The haunting truth that Israel left out was the fact that the collateral damage from their airstrike also killed 31 people and seriously wounded 31 others.
It was reported that the reason why Israel carried out the airstrike over the weekend was because of Hezbollah’s strike that consisted of over 400 rockets being launched deep into Israel and inflicting massive damage onto various Israeli military installations. It’s fair to say that the tit-for-tat skirmishes between Israel and Hezbollah will do nothing but escalate into a much wider war in West Asia. As this situation escalates and unfolds into a much wider war, the only people that suffer are the average everyday people of both countries.
Regardless of those facts, it seems like how people view Hezbollah is changing. What we mean by this is that many people around the world are starting to see Hezbollah not as the terrorist that the collective west have made them out to be; but as freedom fighters that are doing their best to push back against the deadly Israeli genocide that has slaughtered well over 70,000 people and have seriously wounded 3 to 4 times more. Keep in mind that over 70% of those that have been killed or wounded since Israel’s genocidal campaign has started, have been women and children.
Looking closely at the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, it can be said that Hezbollah’s resistance to Israel’s genocide is one that is long overdue given the proximity of Lebanon to both Israel and Palestine. The question that is on the minds of many is: “What took them so long?” That question is easily followed up with: “Why now?”. Through the eyes of the international community, Hezbollah just may be the last thing standing between stopping Israel and the Collective West and World War III.
