Friday night, the Houston Dash faced off against the Portland Thorns FC. Although the game was delayed by at least 2 hours due to Thursday’s severe weather that swept through Houston. Never-the-less, Houston Dash fans remained in stand-by mode so they could have their chance to demonstrate their support for the Houston Dash. One of the players that caught our eye was Houston Dash player Michelle Alozie. The reason for this was during their warm-up and pre-game practice, she demonstrated her strong athletic ability on the field that was both aggressive but controlled. Although she was only warming up, she was still a sight to see on the field.
The game between the Houston Dash and the Portland Thorns was a game that if you lived in Houston or the greater Houston area you shouldn’t have missed despite the storm that passed through. The Houston Dash took 12 shots to the Portland thorns 22 which resulted in the Houston Dash scoring 0 point to Portland’s 2 for the final score of the game. When it came to shots on target, the Houston Dash placed 3 to the Portland Thorns 10. Both series of these numbers come as a surprise; the Houston Dash had possession of the balls 52% compared to the Portland thorns 48%.
Examining the passes and pass accuracy, the Houston Dash executed 427 passes to Portland’s 409, with a pass accuracy of 78% to 75% respectively. Although both teams played well, the word aggressive was assigned to Portland, as they led this game with 10 fouls to the Houston Dash’s 3 with the Houston Dash being issued 1 yellow card. The Houston Dash was caught offside 1 time to Portland’s 3. Lastly, Portland led the Houston Dash when it came to corners 8 to 5 respectively.
There is a lot that can be said about how the Dash played this game. Some people are calling for them to do better, while others are just excited to be fans of the Houston Dash. No matter how you look at it, Houston is still going strong and is always a delight to watch on the field. The next Houston Dash game is scheduled at Shell Energy Stadium on May 24th at 7pm with tickets starting at $17 as they face off against the North Carolina Courage.
