If you didn’t get the opportunity to watch the Houston Dynamo’s face off against the Minnesota United FC, then you missed a very good game on Saturday with 17,142 fans in attendance. Both teams played aggressively as expected as the match ended with both teams scoring one point each. It should be noted that Houston Dynamo fans were not happy with a few of the calls of “offsides” which resulted in them intensely “booing” the referees. It was reported that the Houston Dynamo met 1.8% of their Expected Goals when compared to Minnesota United FC’s 1.1%. In addition, the Houston Dynamo’s fell short when it came to both Goalkeeper Saves and Clearances resulting in them getting 2 saves to the Minnesota United FC’s 6 and 7 Clearances to the Minnesota United FC’s 2 respectively.
This game resulted in the Houston Dynamo executing a whopping 26 shots to Minnesota United FC’s 7. This is an indication that the Houston Dynamo’s heard their fans when they said that they needed to take more shots to firmly increase their chances of a victory on the Pitch. With that being said, the Houston Dynamo acquired 6 shots on target compared to Minnesota United FC’s 2. While Minnesota United FC maintained possession of the ball 32% of the time, they were overshadowed by the Houston Dynamo’s having possession of the ball 68% of the time. The Houston Dynamo’s lead when it came to Blocked Shots with 7 blocked shots to Minnesota United FC’s 3.
Another incredible thing about the Houston Dynamo’s was that they successfully completed 617 passes compared to the Minnesota United FC’s 309. However, even though the Minnesota United FC had 287 Passes, their Pass Accuracy was 80.3% when compared to the 613 number of Passes that the Houston Dynamo had which earned them a Pass Accuracy rate of 88.7%. Both teams acquired an equal number of fouls (11). But the Houston Dynamo’s earned 2 Yellow Cards to the Minnesota United FC’s 1. No Red Cards were reported. When it came to Crosses, the Houston Dynamo’s executed 11 to Minnesota United FC’s 5.
The Houston Dynamo’s received 4 calls for being offsides to the Minnesota United FC’s 1. But there is one thing that should’ve earned the Houston Dynamo’s a victory but didn’t, and that was the fact that they got 8 corners to Minnesota United FC’s 4. In the mind of the fans at least one of them should have got them at least one point, which would have brought the score to 2-1, giving them a win – but unfortunately, they were unable to secure the extra point needed to win. What this does is speak to the good line of defense that the Minnesota United FC exhibited throughout the game.
