It’s very rare that one gets the opportunity to sit down with one of the best that has ever done it when it comes to Insurance Industry within the Houston market. The types of insurance that he specializes in are: Group Life Insurance, Health, Annuities and of course Business Insurance. At slightly over 80 years old, Mr. David Ng is in a position to provide not only mentorship but general guidance on how one should successfully navigate life. During our lunch meeting we had the opportunity to talk to him not only about his life and how he became to be the man that we were sitting across from, but we were giving an insight into some of his pitfalls and “life traps” he was able to avoid – some of which would have set him back. Moreover, we talked about the quality of life in America and how it’s changed from the past up until now. We asked about his predictions as to where America was headed and what we as individual citizens could do to either prepare or get ready for what’s to come.

David Ng was born in Hong Kong and has lived in America for over 53 years. What is most impressive about him being in America is that he has been married for a whopping 50 years. In an age where instant hook-up and mindless dating is the norm – Mr. Ng being married for 50 years is nothing short but stellar and speaks volumes to not only his character but to him as a man. When we asked what his secret was to staying married for so long was; he simply stated: “Put your family first”. That resonated with us because we seem to live in a time where people tend to forget that family is the most important thing.

Another amazing fun fact about Mr. Ng is that he is fluent in three languages: those languages being Cantonese, English, and Mandarin. We can attest to this fact because he ordered our food in these languages. To say that his resume is impressive is short of an understatement. From attending school in China, Australia, and the United States, it’s safe to not only say he’s well-traveled but he garners a deep appreciation for a variety of cultures. Earning a Bachelor of Arts in Finance and Management along with his ability to be easily relatable to people, has catapulted him into some of the following:

· Advisory Board director of Commonwealth Bank in Houston, TX 1986

· Leader of the Round Table - Qualifying Life Member

· MDRT qualifying Life Member for 18 years

· NQA National Quality Award for 18 years in Life Member

Of course, there are more awards and recognition on his resume that are not listed here, but we thought you should get familiar with some of his accomplishments. Outside of that, even being slightly over 80 years old, he’s technically retired. He still keeps an active role in the Insurance Industry and sometimes appears as a guest speaker on occasion. When asked about the state of America he reminisced on how great America used to be in the past as compared to now. He stated: that “America is on the decline globally” and “There is too much gun violence in America”. We think that everyone can agree on these two issues across the board. Although he tends to stray away from politics because the conversation can be polarizing for many people, he did however take a firm stance on gun violence in America.

He stated that: “There should be more gun control” and that “People should not be allowed to carry guns outside of their homes”. And you know what, we can agree with that given the statement as the rates and incidents of gun violence has dramatically increased across the country. This is especially true when it comes to the topic of mass shootings. When we touched on the topic of business, Mr. Ng made it a point to stress that: “The most important thing when it comes to business is building a strong positive relationship”. Mr. Ng reminded us that that was one of the tools that contributed the most to his success in the Insurance Industry.

When it comes to what to expect down the line for America, he stated that at this point Americans should be saving as much as they can because the world is changing even more and faster than it previously did, and with inflation being what it is and being here to stay Americans should save as much as possible. Mr. Ng also touched on a few of his pitfalls and the time Houston Police picked him up and took him to jail. An exceptionally funny story – that we don’t think we can necessarily publish here – but trust us when we say it was hilarious.

Mr. Ng, a husband, a father of three girls, a pillar of success in the City of Houston and a mountain of wisdom, insight, and an off-the-cuff comedian. It was a pleasure sitting down with him and picking his brain and listening to him articulating life from his perspective. Even though he’s technically retired, if you need insurance for Life, Medical or for Investment and just about any other reason he is the person you should be reaching out to. He can be reached at 281-687-4058 or stop by his office at 4615 Southwest Freeway, Suite 477 Houston, Texas 77027. His email is ngdav@aol.com and he’s also available on We Chat: David2816859648. By the way, Mr. Ng lunch will be on us at Maggiano’s Little Italy when you’re ready.
