Israel Withdrawing IDF From Khan Younis After World Outrage

Written by Michael Thervil

Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu

Over the weekend, Israel stated that they have “concluded its mission” in Khan Younis”. The question remains: what was their mission in Khan Younis? To date Israel has been keeping to its failed promise of ridding the world of Hamas not only on the Gaza strip but on an international level. However, in the Gaza city of Khan Younis, where Israel claims Hamas was using the Nasser hospital as an operations base against Israel - it seems that the only people that the people killed were not Hamas but Palestinians. Both the city of Khan Younis and Gaza as a whole has been reduced to rubble with millions of Palestinians displaced.

Yesterday Sunday, April 7, Israel withdrew the vast majority of the IDF from the city. The IDF soldiers from the 98th and the 162nd Divisions alongside the Nahal Brigade will remain in Khan Younis fulfilling “security roles” which would allow Israel to conduct intelligence based operations in the city. During a Press Conference yesterday, IDF Lt. Gen. Halevi stated [paraphrasing] that the IDF is far from stopping its military presence in the city of Khan Younis, and he also stated that “the military wing of Hamas is deterred, the vast majority of its battalions are dismantled and lost their capabilities. That military framework, which had many capabilities, is currently running as small terrorist cells.”

But all of this leaves the world to wonder if both the international outcry combined with political leaders from all over the world seeking to stop sending Israel military armaments along with the American threat of pulling funding from Israel has anything to do with the fact that Israel announcing that they’re going to withdraw their troops from Khan Younis? If you read between the lines, the answer is a clear yes.

This leads to a second question, could it be possible that the international community could have proposed such measures before the conflict has gotten to this point in order to stop Israel from killing roughly 30,000 Palestinians with another 70,000 seriously wounded within the 140 days Israel has been massacring Palestinians? Moreover, could Israel be withdrawing their soldiers because of the looming retaliation from Iran due to Israel bombing and killing several high ranking commanders in an Iranian embassy in Syria? When you add it all up it's a no brainer.

It was also reported that Israel is looking to take their campaign to further south from Khan Younis to Rafah, where many Palestinians have sought shelter away from Israel's war campaign. Again, under the guise of rooting out Hamas. But the international community knows what this means: there will be nothing but more killings of Palestinians.
