MLS: HOUSTON DYNAMO VS. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS 1-1 – 9/18-2024

Although this was a good game to watch, this game just didn’t stack up to the Dynamo’s 4-1 win against the Real Salt Lake FC this past Saturday. Last night’s game was a game in which the Houston Dynamo’s continued their streak of maintaining ball possession and managing the crowd’s expectation of watching the Houston Dynamo’s representing the City of Houston in the league. With three minutes added to the first half, the Houston Dynamo scored the first point of the match. After the Dynamo’s first point, the win probability of the Houston Dynamos significantly changed to 30% with the Whitecaps having a 15%-win probability with a 56% probability of a draw.

 

Even with the Whitecaps scoring their first point of the game in the second half, in terms of stats, the Houston Dynamo’s still managed to outperform the Vancouver Whitecaps. Both the Dynamo’s and the Whitecaps ended the game tied with both teams taking a total of 9 shots. When it came to which team had the most shots on target, the Vancouver Whitecaps ended up ahead of the Dynamo’s with 4 shots on target to the Dynamo’s 1. As always, the Houston Dynamo maintained possession of the ball on the pitch which this game to the tune of 68% when compared to the Whitecaps 32%. The Dynamo’s completed a total of 641 successful passes, the Whitecaps had a total of 309 successful passes.

While both teams maintained a high pass accuracy rate, it was the Houston Dynamo’s that ultimately led in this activity on the pitch with a 92% pass accuracy to the Vancouver Whitecaps 83%. The game was a fast-paced game as both teams played aggressively. With a high level of player aggression on the pitch comes fouls. The Houston Dynamo’s acquired 13 fouls to the Vancouver Whitecaps 11.

 

The Dynamo’s also acquired 3 yellow cards to the Whitecaps 2. No red cards were issued. The Houston Dynamo’s were also caught offside 5 times. With the Houston Dynamo’s racking up offsides calls, at one point in the game it cost them a point. That one point could be seen as the one point needed by them to win last night’s game. Lastly, the Houston Dynamo’s took 13 corners, and the Vancouver Whitecaps took 2 corners. The next game for the Houston Dynamo’s will be held at the Q2 stadium in Austin Texas on September 21st. The win probability between the two teams is currently in favor of the Houston Dynamo’s who have a 38% chance of winning compared to Austin’s 35% chance of winning with a 27% chance of a draw.
