While providing media coverage for Noire Trois Burlesque Productions, there was one Burlesque Performer that really captured our eye. This is not to say that her colleagues were not as good as her, because they were. However there was something about Ms. Mahogany Kingston (stage name Mahogany Wood) that really stood out to us as we observed her performance. For us, it was a combination of the grace of her movement, style of her costume, and how she engaged the audience. Even more than that it was her professionalism on and off the stage that really caught our attention at VEDA Magazine.
A Licensed Yogi and Cosmetologist, Ms. Kingston is a young woman that wears many hats. When performing, she works the stages she appears on as if she had been professionally performing in front of this kind of audience for at least a decade or more. But during our interview she revealed that she’d only been a self-taught now professional Burlesque Dancer/Performer for a little over three months. The first word that comes to our mind is "remarkable". Now you understand something; performing as a Burlesque Dancer is a true theatrical art form, a point that we made clear in a previous article entitled: “VEDA Exclusive | Noire Trois Burlesque Show Houston Texas”. Another thing that people love about Ms. Kingston is her attitude and how she carries herself when she’s not on the stage and entertaining audience across the United States. She’s sweet and inviting while espousing a sense of “confidence” in not only her physique, but also her skillset as a Burlesque Performer.
As a woman of many talents and wearer of many hats, we’d like to highlight the fact that she’s also a clothing designer and seamstress. You heard right, she handmakes all her costumes from “scratch”. Every color strategically chosen, fold, crafted, creases, and stitched stems directly from her hand. We think that it’s her tailoring techniques that also capture the eyes and attention of the audience as well. At 27-years-old, Ms. Kingston response when asked: “How do your parents feel about you being a Burlesque Performer, and do they ever come to your show?” – we’ll leave that up to her to tell you when you watch her interview with us.
Her photoshoot this weekend was one that allowed us to bask in her beauty in a more private setting. Throughout all the studio lighting and strobes, Ms. Kingston still proved to be a special ray of sunshine that serves as more than a piece of eye candy. She represents what it means to be what Kevin Samuels defines as “FBI”, which is a “Fit, Friendly, Beautiful, and Inspirational” woman. And you know what, we are sure that she will most definitely be one hell of a success as a Burlesque Performer as she continues her current path. Keep in mind that anyone can “strip” or be a “stripper” – that’s too easy to be/do. But to be a professional Burlesque Dancer/Performer; that’s a whole different level in adult stage entertainment to aspire to. Bear in mind each show takes roughly 2-3 weeks to create.
Ms. Kingston performs every other Friday with Nior Trios at 8:30pm and every Saturday at 9:30pm at the MobBar located at 201 26th St Suite 2, Galveston, TX 77550. The biggest upcoming show Ms. Kingston will be performing at both their December 23rd Winter Extravaganza and their December 31st New Years Eve Burlesque Show.
