Must Watch: Sofia Vergara As Griselda Blanco On Netflix

Written by Michael Thervil

Be sure to watch Sofia Vergara as Griselda Blanco on Nextflix

Despite our most recent article on Sofia Vergara, it is of great pleasure to say that her performance in the Netflix series Griselda, which is based upon the life of Columbian Drug Lord Griselda Blanco was a great one. many including us at VEDA Magazine, enjoyed the fact that Spanish was spoken through the series and in doing so, it provided a sense of authenticity to not only Sofia Vergara’s performance of Griselda Blanco, but to the series as a whole. Sofia Vergara's accent as a native Spanish speaker, really aided her in capturing the audience during the emotional, violent scenes, and various monologues that were delivered through the series as well.

Another thing that we think that people enjoyed about this series was the wardrobe selection. In the truest sense of the late 1970’s and 80’s fashion, costume designer Safowa Bright Bitzelberger, also did a fantastic job in articulating the various types of clothing that was worn in Miami Florida during the period and time in which Griselda was operating in. for this Netflix series, Safowa Bright Bitzelberger relied on vintage pieces for most of the clothing worn by the actors and actresses. But there was one issue that Safowa Bright Bitzelberger brough up; and that was the fact of the inherent “logistical challenges” that were present during the wardrobe selection.

What is meant by this is that, when it comes to vintage clothing, oftentimes a clothing piece may be one of a kind in existence because it was worn 40 or 50 years ago. And with such a large gap in time being present, it poses as a huge difficulty when it came to sourcing clothing items for the actors and actresses to wear. This is especially evident when you consider the fact that multiple sets of the same clothing were needed in order to shoot some scenes.  We are happy to say that being able to see the vintage pieces that were worn during the filming of Giselda not only invoked a huge sense of nostalgia for people that lived during the period of the 70’s and 80’s; but it’s fair to say that the wardrobe selection sparked a renewed interest in wearing clothing of the period in the film. Younger people in the viewing audience may also find inspiration from the clothing selection as well because oftentimes they are looking for curated clothing pieces such as the ones worn in this Netflix series that either serve as an accent piece or an outright outfit for them to wear on a day-to-day basis.

Another thing that added to the success of the Netflix series Griselda was the color grading of the film. For those that don’t know what “color grading” is, you can think of it as a sort of “filter” that you would use on your Instagram photos. With the film featuring slightly subdued and muted gold tones to it’s light and airy, crisp, tones that are highly reminiscent of the old school Kodak Gold 200 film look if we can say that. In short, it just felt good to see that look on television again for those that can remember.

Griselda Blanco

Unlike some other news media outlets out there, we are not dropping any spoilers here, as we would like to do our part in encouraging you to see Sofia Vergara’s excellent performance as Griselda Blanco in the Netflix series “Griselda”. Based off the life of Griselda Blanco, “Griselda” is an emotional, and attention-grabbing story that people who have lived at least some of their life in the streets can easily identify with. And for those that haven’t lived any time in the streets (lucky you), they should find the depiction of Griselda Blanco’s story both gripping and entertaining as well as the depiction of her life serving as an insight into the lives of people like Griselda Blanco’s life which are plagued by crime, drugs, prostitution, and everything else that comes along with living that kind of life.

We are extremely saddened to report that the real life Griselda Blanco also known as the “Godmother”, was assassinated on September 3, 2012, in Medellín, Colombia 8 years after being released from prison in 2004. Griselda is a must watch on Netflix, we stand by it – we guarantee it.
