Niger Coup – Democracy vs. Russia

Written by Michael Thervil

All too often you hear the word “Democracy” and how every country should strive to have it. But what if a country doesn’t want it? Niger is a prime example of that. In the case of Niger, it’s the United States that is pushing the idea of democracy which offers nothing but chaos and mayhem. On the other side of the coin, there is Russia. If you don’t know what’s been happening, Russia has been working diligently with the people of Niger to develop their infrastructure and other social projects, even more importantly, Russia has just struck a grain deal with the country of Niger and another 5 African countries where Russia will send gain “for free with shipping included” 50,000 tons of grain for the country to help curb its food shortage.

Now we all know that there is nothing “free” in this world. This notion also applies with the grain deal Russia has with the military coup that has recently occurred in Niger. Could the grain deal that was reached be a sign of good faith by the Russian government to Niger? Who knows. But what we do know is that the west (United States and France) doesn’t like the idea of the Niger President Mohamed Bazoum being overthrown and the grain deal being established. However, that’s not the root cause of the coup in Niger.

The root cause of the coup in Niger is the fact that President Mohamed Bazoum continuously plays to the hand of the collective West, and its allies while the people of Niger seem to get nothing in return. It seems as if the people and the military have gotten tired of it. But Niger is nothing more than another domino in the region to turn towards Russia. Its neighbors Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, and Burkina Faso have also turned towards Russia as a potential solution to their socio-economic woes. Mainstream media will cite that the reason for the coup in Niger was because of their inability to fend off terrorist attacks from “Islamic extremism”. But the thing you must keep in mind is that one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.

Truthfully what the African country of Niger is starting to become is another country that’s being ripened to be used in another proxy war between America and Russia. With Russia starting to have more and more influence in what is known as the “Sahel Region” in Africa, which is a combination of the western Sahara, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, Nigeria, Eritrea, and the Sudan. That’s a lot of Russian influence that has spread directly across Africa; and it seems as if America can’t stand it. So, America is forced to use the same decades old premise to remain relevant in this situation as it did with all of the other countries it has destabilized around the world, and that is – “democracy”.
