Fans of the house SaberCats had a great game last night between the Houston SaberCats vs. Los Angeles. The rain combined with the dirt on the pitch added a special dynamic to the game that only rugby players could respect. During the first half of the match, the Houston SaberCats trailed slightly behind Los Angeles for the exception of ball possession, the taking of territory, crossing the gainline, and kicking meters. But the fans of the Houston SaberCats showed no signs of distress, and the Houston SaberCats continued making plays on the pitch.
Both the Houston SaberCats and Los Angeles were tied at 4 when it came to try’s. However, the differences start to creep in when you look at ball possession. The Houston SaberCats possessed the ball 55.06% of the time, while Los Angeles possessed the ball 44.94% of the time. The Houston SaberCats also led when it came to gaining territory with a rate of 64.9% to Los Angeles’s 35.1%. Los Angeles led when it came to tackles with 195 to the Houston SaberCats 119. The SaberCats fell behind in terms of carrying meters with 306 meters to Los Angeles 590 meters.
The SaberCats picked up the lead again with 72 crossed gainlines to Los Angeles 57. Los Angeles led by one when you look at the number of conversions as they had 2 to the Houston SaberCats 1. Neither team had any penalty goals. The Houston SaberCats as mentioned before also led in kicking meters with 379 kicking meters to Los Angeles 311. Both teams tied when it came to lineouts with 12 for both teams. Lastly, when you look at penalties conceded, the Houston SaberCats had 9 while Los Angeles had 11.
According to attendees, this was a gritty game and that was mostly due to the weather conditions, gray skies, cool temperatures, and rain, with moderate winds. None-the-less, fans are happy with the Houston SaberCats performance on the pitch yesterday. The next Houston SaberCats match will take place in Miami, at the Baptist Health Community Field against the Miami Sharks on Saturday, April 12, at 6:30pm.
