They say Playboy is back. But we at VEDA Communications are asking if Playboy has ever left us and the answer to that is a stark “no”. The announcement was made over the weekend that the iconic world-renowned magazine which was first published in December 1953 is coming back in the form of print after deciding to discontinue the printed publication of their magazine back in 2020. The reason why Playboy decided to stop printing their publication was not only because of supply chain issues during the era of COVID-19, but also because of a lack in sales when it came to the print format. This situation was not exclusive to Playboy as a lot of magazines around the world were forced to accept and adapt to the fact that people were simply not buying magazines like they used to in a digital world.
But whether magazine companies were forced or not to adapt to the new digital age where just about everything can be found and/or read online – it's safe to say with a great sigh of relief that Playboy has decided to begin printing their publication again. Here's why it's so special to many fans of Playboy around the world. First, it’s the anticipation of imagining who will be the playmate of the month; This goes without saying. But even more than that, Playboy magazine fans also miss wondering who was going to be interviewed for each month's publication. Then there were topics that were endeared by men all over the world such as according to Playboy: “artists, architects, economists, composers, conductors, film directors, journalists, novelists, playwrights, religious figures, politicians, athletes, and race car drivers.”
For many Playboy fans, it was the physical act of getting that monthly publication in the mail. The notion that they were and will still have the opportunity to pay for quality journalism that reflected not only the times they lived in but the things that they considered notable and worth paying attention to in life. For the fans of Playboy, it just felt really good that there was a magazine that was created that reflected the readers values and lifestyle which consist of beautiful women, interesting figures, contemporary style, upward mobility in terms of class and status; and most of all “sophisticated pleasure”.
If you are wondering if we know who February’s Playboy playmate is going to be; we are happy to report that we have absolutely no idea who she will be. Even more importantly, if we knew, we still wouldn’t tell you who she is.
