Russia Raises Military Service Age To 30

Written by Michael Thervil

Some media outlets will report that the recent change in Russia’s age regarding their service members is because they have suffered too many casualties in the war against Ukraine. The truth is no one really knows the true number of casualties from either side as neither side has provided the world with any precise number of the amount of military personnel that have been killed in action. However, this is not to say that the Russians didn’t suffer any casualties, because they obviously did, but much less than the Ukraine. What we are proposing is that Russia may not have suffered the high number of casualties that’s currently being reported by the mainstream media.

Thus, this brings us to Russia raising their military conscript (service) age to cover the ages of 18-30 from the previous ages of 18-27. The question is why? Again, many mainstream news outlets will simply look at the casualties because of the current war Russia is fighting with Ukraine. Remember that there hasn’t been any news agency citing the true number of casualties that stem from this war because that number hasn’t been revealed. This leads us to the next question: “what led Russia to make this decision?”. Could it be that Russia is gearing up from something that the general population of the world has no knowledge of? Or could it be that Russia is simply replenishing their military conscript numbers to ensure their combat readiness in case Ukraine or NATO decides to launch an attack on Russian soil.

As of late, this is what has been happening. This is not to say that events of the past will always dictate the events of the future as there will always be unexpected blowback from one’s actions. But in this case, it's most certainly a possibility that would warrant Russia to embark on the decision to boost their military conscript numbers. The current facts are that Russia will be increasing their military conscript members by 30% by the spring of next year. In addition, Russia will be also putting an end to “draft dodgers”. However, at the same time if a Russian citizen wishes to leave the country before they receive their conscript notice they can.

Other facts that are related to this measure are the following:

  • The gradual rise of the age limit by 5 years for military reservists. This would include military reservists being able to be recalled up to the age of 55.

  • Within several years, Russia’s junior officers can be called into service up to 60 years old and senior officers can be called into service up to 65 years old.

  • High ranking servicemen can be recalled up to the age of 70.

  • As an added bonus, Russia will be able to enlist foreign citizens from within the country up to the age of 52.

Many people claim to be “outraged” by the decisions of Russia. However, keep in mind that Russia is a sovereign country that is entitled to create its own rules and therefore there is nothing anyone can do about it.
