We had the opportunity to cover what is known in Houston as the Santa Dash (Instagram: @santadash5k). For those that are not familiar with the Santa Dash, it’s what is known as a “Fun Run” event in which the proceeds go to various charities. Outside of monetary donations, every Christmas season’s Fun Run, participants donate wrapped toys that go to the benefit of children that are less fortunate for the Christmas season. Spearheaded by Prince Uluocha, he ensures that the run environment is not only safe and organized, but family friendly. Another thing that we enjoyed while we covered this year’s Santa Dash like the others before was the fact that it really boosted the morale of the local community and really gave Houstonians something to come together for.
The Fun Run consisted of both a 5k run for adults and was immediately followed by a 1k run for children. Intakes for runners began as early as 7:30am and the actual event started promptly at 9am and ended roughly around 11am. The Santa Dash Fun Run also featured a live DJ, various vendors, Christmas apparel for purchase, and featured special guest host Instagram: @lotto.marie. It was really something to cover and be a part of as each runner upon completion of the run was awarded a ribboned medal. The thing that we enjoyed the most was that the children of the community who participated were happy.
Big smiles accomplished their faces as they ran with their parents and caregivers from this event. Moreover, many of the adults that ran with their children were forced to face the unpopular fact that they haven’t ran in years and that they’re far from being in shape, but in doing so they were able to briefly enjoy the nostalgia from their childhood of being able to run and have a good time on the street without a care in the world. We urge you to take the time out to check out some of the photos from this event as it was a blast to provide coverage for this year’s Santa Dash.
