Interview with Shana Singleton - Herpes Awareness & Transformational Coach

There are advocates and there is Shana Singleton, who is an Advocate on behalf of people all over the world who either suffer or have tested positive for the Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 or Type 2. What people love about Shana Singleton is her fearless ability to be transparent and her uncanny ability to bring awareness to one of the most common viruses known to the human species. Outside of that, she brings both a wealth of knowledge but even more importantly she brings a multitude of solutions to people around the world that have been diagnosed with Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 or Type 2.

Residing in Florida, 45 min north of West Palm Beach; Shana Singleton, who is a U.S. Army Veteran, mother, and alumni of both Wilmington and Drexel University spent a total of 8 years as a Military Police Officer (MP) and Protective Service Agent For The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID). After determining that law enforcement wasn’t something that she'd like to make a long-term career out of, she went back to school and became a Food Scientist and formally trained to become a Chef. Upon her graduation, Ms. Singleton became not only a Chef for a holistic wellness center known as “Zencation”; but she also filled the role as a Plant-Based Recipe Food Developer for the company.

During her tenure at Zencation, she began delivering speaking engagements within the Wellness Community and upon doing so she discovered that people really enjoyed hearing her speak. It was this realization that served as a springboard that launched not only her track of being the premier advocate for Herpes Awareness, but it helped launch her own Herpes awareness organization that now has over 300,070 members worldwide and counting. When asked about how she became aware of her diagnosis of testing positive for Herpes, she stated the following:

“I found out that I had Herpes the same day that I found out that I was pregnant with my son. I had what I thought was a razor bump. It was extremely painful.”

Upon showing her boyfriend at the time, He encouraged her to get it checked out. When she did schedule and time to see a doctor while in the military, the doctor sort of blew it off as a simple razor bump and assured her that it was nothing to worry about. However, this wasn’t the case with Ms. Singleton. Not only was she being proactive, but she also insisted that her doctor conduct a test on the irritated area to see if there may have been any other underlying cause as to why she was in so much pain. It would be two weeks from that day on which she would learn that she tested positive for Herpes.

In the U.S. Military 64% Black America Men suffer from Pseudofolliculitis Barbae which is a skin condition that results in inflammation after shaving due to a person’s hair penetrating the skin prior to leaving the hair follicle and/or leaving the follicle and curving back into the skin causing the body to react to the inflammation as if a foreign body was present. Herpes Simplex Virus or (HSV), as described by Shana Singleton is a virus that can be considered to be “most likely zoonotic” and based on her practice as a Herpes Transformational Coach affects roughly a ratio of “6 women to one man”.

Living with the Herpes Virus herself she was able to point out the fact that according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that “48% of Black American Women tested positive for Genital Herpes.” In addition to that Shana Singleton stated that according to the CDC: “By the age 50, 95% of people that fall into that age group will have either HSV Type 1 or Type 2.”

Ms. Singleton, a member of the National Coalition for Sexual Health, also stated that “because she’s a woman, most of the people that tend to reach out and gravitate towards her are women,” and it’s of no surprise because people tend to seek help from people that they perceive can “relate” to them. When we inquired about how she conducts her private coaching sessions with her clients she stated: “knowledge awareness and accountability” is something that she emphasizes. This is crucial because according to her, the “victim mentality is prevalent” amongst people who test positive for either HSV 1 or HSV 2.

When conducting her sessions, she tends to perform a 30-day observation and assessment of her clients which provides her with the data and feedback she needs in order to address her clients’ needs. So far, she has been extremely successful in helping people that have come to her who have tested positive.
