For the Texas Southern University (TSU) Alumni and fans, you’re going to love this. The TSU Sensations, which is led by Head Coach Ms. Getchen Jean also simply known as “Coach G” put together a two-week training camp that not only puts emphasis on honing their dancing skills and routines for the upcoming basketball season. But this training camp is a platform for the fostering of team cohesion and strengthening social bonds between the members of the TSU Sensations. The big-ticket give-away from this training camp is that the members of the TSU Sensations get the opportunity to fine tune their dance choreography for a shot for a national championship title this year. If you would like to know more about Coach G and what makes her the perfect fit to lead the Sensations, please feel free to read more about her here.

So, you may be asking yourself the following:
“What makes the TSU Sensations so special?”
That’s a good question. There are tons of cheerleading and dance squads the world over; but the TSU Sensations are not a cheerleading squad, and they are most certainly not like the rest of the plethora of collegiate dance squads out there. In fact, there are very few collegiate dance teams like them in a collegiate setting which is another reason outside of their skillsets why they’re so special. Trust and believe that the women that make up the TSU Sensations entertain – and they will keep you entertained throughout the entire basketball game. In a past interview, Coach G described the difference between traditional dance squads and the what the Sensations do as the following:
“While the TSU Sensations cheer team is oriented towards traditional cheer activities, the Sensations show spirit combined with modern Hip-Hop Dance skills.”
Coach G further added:
"The difference between hbcu majorette squads and The Sensations. She is a former Rockets dancer, and currently a part of the Rockets Entertainment groups. She admires the work of the her current coach and Entertainment Director and models the NBA dance industry. You will see the Sensations showing spirit by performing on the sidelines and on the court during timeouts and halftime. They also participate in t shirt tosses and whatever is needed by the basketball operations manager. "

And skills are exactly what the women of the TSU Sensation have and showcase. While providing limited coverage for their training camp, we at VEDA were able to witness firsthand how fast the members of the Sensations were able to develop and memorize their complex dance choreography. It was truly an amazing sight to see as the women of the TSU Sensations were led by the many years of experience of Coach G and her Guest Dance Choreographer Jacqueline Robinson, who too was a former Houston Rockets Dancer, former TSU Sensation and of course she’s a TSU Alumni.
We see more than simply the great dance talent of each of the young women that comprise the TSU Sensations. We see dedication, inspiration, and a high level of motivation from each member of the team. Moreover, we also see how educated they are as well. The fact that one of the former Sensations made a career out of dancing for the Houston Rockets NBA basketball franchise and made it a point to come back and teach the next generation of Sensations says a lot as it gives further meaning to the cliché “each one, teach one” and demonstrates the definition of what “giving back” really means.

It is our position that Dance Choreographer Jaqueline Robinson provided extra motivation to the Sensations that were in attendance for this training camp. And of course, there’s simply not enough words to describe the demonstrated leadership that Coach G puts forth for the TSU Sensations. With that said, we hope that you enjoy both the photos and videos presented here at VEDA Magazine featuring the Texas Southern University Sensations.
UPDATE: The TSU Sensations have recently won the opportunity to go to nationals by the National Dance Alliance (NDA) over this past weekend.
