For our readers that are open to understanding what's going on in the Arctic between the United States, China, Russia, and Greenland, this journalistic piece by Al-Jazeera is a great place to start. The Arctic is a geographical region that is ultra-rich in minerals, rare earths, oil, gas, and LNG. The issue for countries like America who don’t have a big presence in the region when compared to Russia and to a small extent China, is the fact that its dominance in the world is not only currently being challenged but is diminishing because of what lies there.
Also, there is the role global climate change is playing in the Arctic. From the melting of polar caps and icebergs, to agriculture, to human and industrial migration, the Arctic despite it being cold, is showing promise for the future humans that will inhabit the world. When it comes to the people of Greenland, they are resisting the coming of America in the island country to the tune of 85%. Recently, the people of Greenland have protested the arrival of the second lady of the United States Usha Vance as she flew in to attend Greenland's national dogsled race as a way to strengthen diplomatic relations. For the vast majority of Greenlanders, the arrival of Usha Vance is seen as nothing more than a Trojan Horse and Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede calling her visit to Greenland as “highly aggressive”.
For the world's major powers mentioned here, the probability of war is growing day by day. How far will the world's major powers go to secure their slice of the Arctic pie – no one knows. But we at VEDA Communications have published several articles on the Arctic. Take the time out to look at this video entitled: “Is Conflict In The Arctic A Real Threat Or Just Hype? Start Here”.
